Spring 2025 Jilly Box FAQ
What happened?
Last week, we were notified by three customers that they found small bugs in their Spring Boxes. We took this feedback very seriously and immediately took action to find out where these could have come from. We unfortunately discovered that a small number of The Hot + Cold Therapy Pillows by b, halfmoon were affected. The Supplier has since confirmed that they have experienced this previously and did not disclose the information to us because the inventory produced for The Jilly Box was manufactured at a different facility.
Here are the other steps we took:
- Contacted the Supplier to seek additional information on the production process and factory protocols
- Confirmed all precautionary measures were taken to treat and store the products - we have confirmed fumigation reports, quality control check documentation and customs clearance documentation
- Brought in an industry expert to assess the situation, provide initial input on the type of bug and potential impact to customers
- Requested further microscopic analysis and a formal report to confirm the type of bug and reinforce the initial recommendation provided
- Contacted our customers via email within 24-hours of initial findings, in order to share the information available and immediately provide confirmation of the issue and to advise disposing of the product
- Shipped outstanding boxes without the affected product included

What product is defective?
The Hot + Cold Therapy Pillow by b, halfmoon. We can confirm with certainty that the root cause is the b, halfmoon pillow and no other products contain bugs.
Are the other products in my box affected?
There should not be an impact to the other items included in your box but to align with the recommendation that we received from a pest control expert, we recommend giving fabric items a gentle wash before use to ensure the best experience.

What kind of bug is it?
We have confirmed that the bug is a red flour beetle, which is closely related to the weevil and other common stored grain insects.
What is the bag and the product in the bag made from?
The cover of the bag is made of 100% organic cotton. The contents within the product are made from all-natural ingredients - 99% wholegrain wheatberry and 1% lavender. The product is compostable.
Is the bug a health concern to me, my children, or pets?
No. The service report confirms that the red flour beetle is not considered to be a health concern to humans or pets.
Are there any health concerns for people who have already used the pillow?
No. The service report states that contact with the red flour beetle is not considered to be a health concern to humans or pets.
Is it safe to continue using the product if I freeze/microwave it?
The professional recommendation is that the best course of action is to discard the product. The product is 100% natural and compostable so it can safely be disposed of alongside other compostable products.
Is the warehouse impacted?
No. Following a thorough inspection by a licensed pest control service, we can confirm that our warehouse is free of any pest infestations. There was a product that arrived at our warehouse that was found to contain red flour beetles. However, it is important to clarify that the presence of pests was limited to this specific product and did not originate or spread within our warehouse. The affected product was immediately removed, and there has been no evidence of any infestation within the warehouse itself.
We further confirm that there is no risk of contamination to any other products stored in our warehouse. We take the cleanliness and safety of our facilities seriously, and we remain confident that there is no ongoing concern regarding pests, contamination, or any adverse effects on the integrity of our operations or inventory.
What should I do with the pillow? Can I throw it in the garbage?
You can dispose of your Hot + Cold Therapy Pillow. The bag and contents in the bag are all natural and compostable.
How will you compensate me for this issue?
The value of this product is $62. All Jilly Box customers who have purchased a Spring 2025 Jilly Box will receive a $62 voucher to The Jilly Box Market. Vouchers will be sent to customers via email.
The Market is sold out of items I wanted to buy. What should I do?
Our Market is full of wonderful products from small Canadian businesses. It will be updated regularly with new items and restocks. Make sure you’re signed up for our emails to be the first to know when the market is updated. Also remember - your voucher is valid for a year - we want you to be able to choose the perfect product.
Jilly Box Market Voucher
When will I receive my voucher?
We have sent all Spring 2025 Jilly Box buyers a voucher via email (the email you used to purchase your Jilly Box) on Friday Feb 21. If you did not receive your voucher, please contact us at support@jillybox.com. Please note that these vouchers are available for one-time use, and cannot be stacked with other discount codes.
How do I use my voucher?
Click on the link in the email you received to have your voucher code automatically applied to your cart. Alternatively, you can enter your unique voucher code at checkout in the “Discount code or gift card” section and click “Apply”. Your voucher value of $62 will be deducted from your subtotal.
I bought the box on Facebook marketplace, will I also receive a voucher?
Vouchers will be issued only to those who purchased the box directly from The Jilly Box and are non-transferable.
Does my voucher expire?
Yes. All vouchers are valid for 1 year and will expire on March 1, 2026.
My voucher code is not working.

Can I use my voucher for a future Jilly Box?
No. Vouchers are valid for The Jilly Box Market and cannot be applied to a seasonal Jilly Box. Gift cards and future seasonal boxes are also excluded from this voucher.
Is there free shipping on the item I purchase with the voucher?
Free shipping is not included in the $62 voucher, but will apply if your cart totals $149 CAD or more (after the voucher is applied). We do our best to keep shipping costs as low as possible and more affordable for our customers. We offer a low flat-rate of $9.95 within Canada and $14.95 in the U.S.— which is below typical shipping costs - and we cover the difference.
Are there any exclusions for my voucher?
No minimum purchase required. This voucher (this “Voucher”) cannot be used on seasonal Jilly Boxes, future curated boxes, gift card purchases, taxes or shipping costs. The Jilly Box Inc. reserves the right at any time to exclude the use of this Voucher from any products or services sold through the Jilly Market at The Jilly Box Inc.’s sole discretion without prior notice. Other exclusions may apply. This voucher will apply the discount to the total pre-tax price. The unique code contained in this Voucher is valid for one time use (the balance cannot be carried forward), non-transferable and cannot be combined with any other offers. This Voucher has no cash value, cannot be redeemed for cash, and is not subject to any rainchecks.
